Belinda and Scott with some of their work. Damn,... I've fallen behind on testing,...

History

MI Audio was founded in 2002 by me, Michael Ibrahim. It came as the culmination of 15 years interest in music and electronics. However, the real impetus for the founding of the company was the creation of the Tube Zone Overdrive, which I first started building in 1995. I built these devices both for myself and friends, and soon found that there was a serious demand for them.

So in 2002, I took the plunge and started doing this for real. The Tube Zone was a great success, and continues to be the flagship overdrive pedal in the MI Audio range. In 2004, I released the Blue Boy overdrive, followed by the GI Fuzz and Neo Fuzz in mid 2005, the Blues Pro overdrive in late 2005, and finally the Crunch Box Distortion in early 2006.

2005 also marked a new phase in the life of MI Audio. By this stage demand had grown to the extent that I could no longer keep up with orders. So on the 5th of December 2005, MI Audio moved operations into industrial premises. I also have hired a few people to help me keep up with demand. In July 2006, we outgrew our premises, and moved into a larger industrial space, better suited 'heavier' manufacturing. Today, we are the largest boutique pedal builder in Australia.

I'm really excited about the 2006. Not only have I updated many of my designs, but I have a few more exciting new toys coming out. Stay tuned!

This is the collection of amps we currently use to test our pedals. A good and varied collection of amps and guitars is very important for making sure that our pedal designs will work effectively in as many situations as possible. The amps include:

  •  my pride and joy, the amazing Bogner Ecstasy into a custom made 4*12 with vintage 30s, or into a prototype rear ported 2*12 with century vintage drivers.

  • my trusty old Roland JC120, arguably the standard for solid state clean amps.

  • a Peavey Classic 30 (small valve combo).

  • a Yamaha DG60 (digital modeling amp)

  • a Peavey TKO115 bass amp, which we use to try out our upcoming bass pedal designs

Our Guitar Collection includes:

  • A Samick 335 Copy
  • A guitar I built myself from scratch, nicknamed the 'Ibranez', which is a chambered PRS style guitar Dimarzio humbuckers.
  • A pair of cheap tele and strat copies
  • A 1990 Ibanez RG750 with Seymour Duncan pickups
  • A 'strat' made from Stew Mac parts with Dimarzio noiseless single-coils.
  • A Steinberger 'broom'
  • A Samick Bass
  • A Fender Deluxe P Bass.
